Background
We investigated whether intensive glycemic control, combination therapy for dyslipidemia, and intensive blood-pressure control would limit the progression of diabetic retinopathy in persons with type 2 diabetes. Previous data suggest that these systemic factors may be important in the development and progression of diabetic retinopathy.

Inleiding
De Landelijke Eerstelijns Samenwerkingsafspraak Diabetes mellitus type 2 is opgesteld door een werkgroep van het Nederlands Huisartsen Genootschap (NHG) en het Nederlands Paramedisch Instituut (NPi), met vertegenwoordigers van de Diabetes Vereniging Nederland (DVN), de Eerste Associatie van Diabetesverpleegkundigen (EADV), het Koninklijk Nederlands Genootschap voor Fysiotherapie (KNGF), de Nederlandse Vereniging van Diëtisten (NVD) in samenwerking met de Stichting Diabetes and Nutrition Organization (DNO), de Nederlandse Vereniging van Ergotherapeuten (NVE), de Nederlandse Vereniging van Mondhygiënisten (NVM), de Nederlandse Vereniging van Podotherapeuten (NVvP) en de Vereniging van Oefentherapeuten Cesar en Mensendieck (VvOCM).
